President, Sierra High School FIDM Fashion Club
Tell us a little about yourself: I didn't know if I wanted to be a corrections officer, a traveling nurse, or an actress, until one day in my sophomore year, a representative from FIDM joined my fashion design class and taught us how to draw croquis. She also shared information about FIDM, and since then I knew FIDM was the school I wanted to attend. I'm just like any other teenager—in my free time, I chill with my friends, get on Facebook or Twitter, and go to parties. I'm more of an outgoing type of girl. I'm all about fun. But when it comes to my school work, I get down to business and take that very seriously.
How did you get involved in Fashion Club at your high school?
When I was a sophomore I joined my school's Fashion Club. Then, as I got really involved with FIDM, I discovered that I could start an official FIDM Fashion Club at my school. Since I was really interested in attending FIDM, I was happy to learn that starting a club would benefit me in many ways. So I went to the fashion teacher at my school to talk about it, and she thought it was a great idea. We both went over the paperwork, signed it, and sent it off to FIDM. I am the President of FIDM Fashion Club of four schools in my city. I'm really happy for the opportunity to have such a big responsibility.
What do you love about your Fashion Club? Our adviser Mrs. Anaya. She's a great person and always has excellent advice. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have the chance to experience what it's like being the president of a Fashion Club. It feels good for me to say my Fashion Club because this is my first time being in charge of a club, and the part I enjoy best is setting a good example for younger classmates.
What kinds of activities do you do at your Fashion Club meetings?
We make blankets for children in need. We recently did a yard sale
to raise money for our Fashion Club cardigans and our trip to the
FIDM campus in LA. We also made headbands and friendship bracelets.
In March, we plan to put on a fashion show for the school and our community.
What's a fashion trend you're loving right now? Since my fashion style is so unique, I can't really say I have a favorite trend right now. But I do love high heels and skinny jeans, and I cover myself in accessories. But I don't do too much—I have to keep it cute and fun. I love any shirt with animal prints.
Who is your style icon? My style icon is Kim Kardashian—all her clothes are so cute and amazing. I get some ideas from her, and spice it up with my own taste.
What fashion websites/blogs do you love? Teen Vogue, Seventeen, Shiekh Shoes, and H&M.
Do you have plans to attend FIDM? I absolutely have plans to attend FIDM next year in January. I'm graduating early in December, and I'm moving to the campus in LA. I think moving to LA will be a great experience for me because I will be independent, learning the skills to live on my own, and I'll have lots of responsibility. I think this will be a great opportunity because LA is all about fashion. I feel LA can offer me more than San Francisco.
What are your career goals? My career goals are to be a famous fashion stylist, a set decorator, and an event coordinator. I want to style celebrities for fashion shows and BET and VMA Awards. I have a unique and outstanding imagination, and styling comes naturally for me. I'm the kind of person who likes to show off my work and skills. Planning events such as weddings would be so amazing because it's such an important time for the couples who are getting married. I want to show people how beautiful my work could be.
Anything else you'd like to share? I'm just really excited about where I am in life right now. Many doors are opening for me, and I really appreciate the people who are helping me and giving me great advice. My Admissions Advisor at FIDM is so sweet and I just want to thank her for guiding me and being patient.
