2011 My FIDM Fashion Club Scholarship Contest

Congratulations to the Winners!

Each year, we call for juniors and seniors in official High School FIDM Fashion Clubs to enter the My FIDM Fashion Club Scholarship Contest. One (1) full-year scholarship to attend FIDM (a value of up to $23,000) is awarded in the junior category, and two $5,000 scholarships to attend FIDM are awarded in the senior category.

Juniors are asked to imagine they've been
hired to plan (with an unlimited budget)
the look and concept of a fashion show for a famous fashion designer of their choice, then develop a concept for the fashion show. They must keep in mind that the audience will be fashion editors, buyers, and VIPs from all over the world!

Seniors are asked to put themselves ten
years into the future and write a 500-word essay detailing what their FIDM Fashion Club has been up to for the last 10 years to stay active.

We are thrilled to announce that our Junior Winner is Madalyn D. of St. Teresa's Academy, and our Senior Winners are Claire F. of Broadway High School and Lanelle T. of Escondido High School. Thank you to all who entered and congratulations to our winners!

Claire F.'s Essay Excerpt
"The clicking of my Marc Jacobs resonates through the deserted halls as I stride to my ten-year reunion. Forgotten memories pace through my head like skipping models at a Betsey Johnson show. One memory I have not forgotten and will never forget, my fashion club causes an anxiety within me. 'What has happened since I've left? Does the club still exist? How many people have joined? What activities do they do?' I ask myself.

"Carrie Campbell, the Fashion Club advisor, runs up and embraces me crying out in her deep southern accent, 'Have I got news for you gir!' My heart automatically warms seeing the woman that I spent the majority of my senior year with again..."

Lanelle T.'s Essay Excerpt
"I was eager to converse with the current
FIDM Fashion Club president about their progress and experiences accumulated throughout the past ten years. I was exuberant to find out that the Fashion Club as Escondido High School was still active, stronger and larger than ever. In the meeting, I was informed of the club's expansion of subcommittees and members, even male members who I knew were a challenge to get involved. The president greatly expressed her passion for the club and of the many things they had accomplished related to design, and manufacturing, as well as the yearly events, and fundraisers they planned and managed along with many other impressive accomplishments.

"The design aspect of the club is truly remarkable. Using the 9-headed figure, the members learn to sketch a croquis and design outfits. Then they apply their acquired skills and creativity to help the school's drama department with designing, constructing,
and styling the costumes for the school plays..."
